Encyclopedia administration (3 days)The Encyclopedia Administrator course provides Gen developers with the information they require to make the transition to encyclopedia administrators and model managers. The course describes the types and purpose of the different Gen encyclopedias and discusses its role in the development process. The tasks carried out by a encyclopedia administrator and a model manager are looked at including an detailed analysis of model management and version control tasks. Finally, the process of development co-ordination is discussed. The agenda is as follows: Day 1
The structure of the types of encyclopedia is discussed including important schema tables. Exercise includes checking out a model, overriding a checkout and generating a new model. The Database tables are examined at a high level to show what is happening internally. Day 2
Subsetting should be familiar to experienced Gen developers, but additional information on the mechanics is presented. The class discusses the subsetting task tables. Day 3
Delegates are given information on maintaining developer access to models within the encyclopedia and information on the day to day management of models within the development environment. In the exercises, the delegates act as encyclopedia administrators and grant user access to models, copy and delete models then rename objects within a model. Day 4
Delegates are introduced to the concepts of version control including object ancestry, the creation of aggregate sets, the adoption of objects and the migration of objects from model to model. Delegates carry out model comparisons, adoptions and migrations in order to understand the some key model management concepts. Day 5
A sample model management strategy is discussed. How model objects are promoted from development through the various test stages into production is explored. Approaches to maintaining production models while developing new releases are discussed. Who should attend:This course is aimed at developers who are looking to move into an encyclopedia or model management role. Technical staff from other disciplines that are familiar with Gen may also find the course rewarding. Pre requisite knowledge:
